Nandadulal Temple is located in the heart of Chandannagar in Hooghly District. Lord Krishna is the main diety. The idol is worshiped annually in the month of "Bhadra" (August) on the holly "Janmastami" (date of appearance of "Lord Krishna"). This temple is considered to be the largest of its kind in undivided Bengal. This beautiful temple was built in 1740 by Sri Indra Narayan Choudhury. It is a striking example of Bengali architecture. In the year 1757, the temple as well as the palacial building of Indra Narayan Choudhury was looted and cannonade by Lord Clive on the way to Palasi (Murshidabad District). The looted amount was Rs.65,00,000/- consisting of gold coins and ornaments. The idol was destructed, the lower part of which is preserved in Chandannagore Museum. The idol was re-built in the year 2005 on the auspicious day of "Janmastami" after long two hundred and forty eight years.
