Venu Gopala Swamy Temple Bobbili information

Venu Gopala Swamy Temple Bobbili

The ancient historical Town Of Bobbili is a home to Venugopala Swami who is the family deity of the royals of Bobbili. The temple of Venugopala Swami had been in existence since Bobbili was founded. After the ill fated battle of Bobbili, one Chinna Ranga Rao took over the reins of Bobbili. He then re-constructed the Venugopala swami temple that is located close to the royal residence and is the most revered temple in Bobbili. The Gopuram at the entrance of the temple was built in 1851 by Swetha Chalapati Rao while the mandapams were constructed by Maharaja Krishna Das Ranaga Rao, in 1825. You can notice that the Gopuram of the temple is higher than that of the main temple and this is the only temple in this region where you can see this feature. The Vasant Mandapam stands aloof in the placid waters of a lake. The idol from the temple of Lord Venugopala Swami is brought to the lake annually to celebrate the onset of spring. Legend has it that the Lord enjoys a day of solitude with his wife here. After this the idol is installed in Dola Yatra Mandapam on the banks of the lake for a day and then carried to the main temple.
