Oxygen Park
In a bid to provide clean and fresh air to the residents of state capital, Ranchi Municipal Corporation opened an oxygen park in Morhabadi ground spread over an area of 16,000 sq m. The first of its kind park will have effect of forest. The 70 per cent land of the park will be dedicated to the trees, around 20 per cent to the flowering trees and remaining 10 per cent to flowering plants. The project is expected to begin within a month’s time. Majority of the planted trees will be indigenous ones like neem and peepal, while the remaining area in the park will have flowering shrubs. On the basis of local climatic adaptability, soil condition and water absorption capacity the trees for the park will be selected. Those which can release high amount of oxygen will be preferred. The trees that will be planted are nesting trees which will provide forest like feeling to both birds and human beings. In city people do not get a chance to be near forest. This park will provide clean and fresh air to those living within the city. In Ranchi due to rapid urbanisation, the green spaces within the city are shrinking fast. This is a small initiative in the direction of providing people healthy life. Besides the trees there will be a path to walk on, some benches for citizens to sit and a small pond. According to RMC officials, the lawn portion in the park will be less as the intention is to provide fresh air.
